Specialist Pelvic Health Physiotherapist

Kirsten has been a physiotherapist since 1996 and has specialised in women’s and pelvic health for more than 25 years.

Her experience includes working within NHS pelvic health, maternity and colorectal pelvic floor services, giving her extensive experience supporting people with a wide range of bladder, bowel, pelvic floor and pelvic pain problems.

You don’t need to feel embarrassed or uncomfortable talking about pelvic health. Kirsten’s approach is professional, compassionate and completely confidential.

What happens at your first pelvic health appointment?

1. We listen

We’ll talk privately about your symptoms, your concerns and how they are affecting your everyday life.

2. We assess

Kirsten will carry out an appropriate assessment to understand what may be contributing to your symptoms.

3. We explain

You’ll have the opportunity to ask questions and we’ll explain what we find in straightforward language.

4. We make a plan

You’ll receive a personalised treatment and rehabilitation plan based around your goals.

What about an internal examination?

An internal examination may be recommended depending on your symptoms, but it is not automatically required.

Kirsten will explain why an examination may be useful, what it involves and obtain your consent before proceeding.

You are always entitled to ask questions or decline. You can also have a chaperone present if you prefer.

Not necessarily. Kirsten will discuss whether an internal examination would be appropriate for you and obtain your consent beforehand.

From 6 weeks after birth is ideal, but it’s never too late – even years later.

Yes. Pelvic floor rehabilitation and lifestyle advice can significantly improve symptoms and help you avoid worsening.

No. You can book directly with Kirsten without a GP referral.

No. Pelvic health problems affect people of all genders, and we also support men with appropriate pelvic, bladder and bowel problems.

It can form part of a multidisciplinary approach to managing some symptoms associated with endometriosis, including pelvic pain and pelvic floor dysfunction.

Yes. Depending on the cause of your symptoms, treatment may include pelvic floor rehabilitation, bladder strategies, behavioural advice, education and, where appropriate, treatments such as PTNS.

Yes. Pelvic health physiotherapy can assess contributing factors and provide appropriate rehabilitation and advice. PTNS may also be considered for some people.

No. Many people who have not had children can still experience pelvic health problems.

Yes, as with all Physiotherapy appointments patient confidentiality is paramount. Your appointment takes place privately and your symptoms will be discussed professionally and sensitively.
